last spring.... 2009.
I am the art teacher for O.R. Edgington and most of Union Elementary.  I
have been teaching in both schools for 18 years.

Art Grades come out on the following report cards:
2nd quarter and 4th quarter.  Please consult the District Calendar for
those dates.

Rules of my room:
1.  Try your best.
2.  Listen to the teacher and other students.
3.  Share ALL materials politely.
4.  Use all materials properly.
5.  Follow directions the first time.
6.  Use a quiet voice.
7.  Do your own work.
8.  Follow all other school rules.

Consequences for not following the rules:
        first time:  warning
second time:  name on the board.  I have the student write their own name
on the board.
third time:  check mark.  A note or call home to parent/guardian.  I ask
that a note be signed and returned so I know that the information
reaches parents/guardians.
fourth time:  student assigned detention or removed from class.  I rarely
have these situations.

        Rewards for following the rules:
        1. Praise.
        2. We have fun doing our work and learning during class.
        3. Smiles.
        4. Students have time to do many more assignments.

Materials We Use:
        Paints:
Acrylic:  We use these from time to time and are not
washable.[Image:DSC01371.jpg]
Temperas:  I buy washable paint when I can.
Watercolors do not come in a washable variety.  I do provide art shirts
for the students to cover their clothing.  These may not prevent accidents
but they do provide some protection.

        Crayons[Image:DSC01385.jpg]  [Image:DSC01375.jpg]
        Pencils
Markers:  I buy washable markers when I can get them for a reasonable
price. Even if I can't find washable markers for a good price, marker has
rarely been a problem... even if I get it on my own clothing.
        Pastels:
Oil pastels: may require stain remover if it gets on clothing.  I have
the students use an art shirt.
"Chalk" pastels:  May also require stain remover.
[Image:DSC01307.jpg][Image:DSC01319.jpg]

        Modeling clay
Ceramic clay: ORE only. Unfortunately, Union doesn't have a kiln.
Sometimes stains, but as always art shirts are offered.

Glue:  Most often we use Elmers, and that is quite washable.  With the
older students from time to time we do use hot glue.  I have low temp
glue guns for students to use, and both high temp
and low temp glue guns are supervised by me or a Watch Dog.

Printing ink:  I only use water soluble printing ink.

All other materials are pretty much washable.  They may, however, require
stain treatment.  One thing that I have found for myself that gets out a
lot of different stains is something called Krud Kutter.  I get it at Home
Depot.  It is expensive for a gallon jug, but it cleans many things
including getting spray paint overspray off of skin and carpet.

Over the course of the year we use a wide variety of materials from
crayons to clay to create projects from drawings to prints to sculptures.
Each student is exposed to proper use and care of all the materials we
use.  All of the materials we use are paid for by a portion of the student
fees that are collected every year.  I try to buy the best quality for the
best price, so that all money I spend is used wisely and for projects that
are meaningful.

such as in following the directions on the assignment, using the materials in the proper way,  and

and not distracting others), each student can expect to do well in my class.
